New Fabric (so excited)

I should be doing school work right now but I had to share my newest fabric find. The Berenstain Bears was my favorite book series when I was a kid. I stumbled across the newly released fabric by Moda completely by accident this morning and had to add it to my stash. I have no idea what I'll use it for but I'm sure I'll find something (and it probably won't be given away). These are the two that I got:

Liv's Plus Quilt

Got a lot done on the Owl over the weekend but at this point, I don't want to show it until it's complete. Instead, here's a pic of a quilt I did for my niece about a year ago. I was just going to do random pluses all over but Eric thought there should be a pattern. It does look good after all.

Turns out, she likes the back better than the front. I think it looks lumpy and crappy. Oh well, that's kids I guess.

Hootenanny Update

Finally had some time to work on this quilt which will be for Eric's co-worker's baby-to-be. It's actually coming together pretty quickly although I was so into it Friday night, I stayed up waaay past my bedtime. I have been watching "Shameless" while I sew which really makes the time fly.

I wanted to share with you a fantastic website that allows you to print your own fabric on everything from quilters weight to silk crepe. For those of us who like to pretend that we have some sort of creative ability, this is a great way to bolster that ego. You can take just about any image that you find or create and make fabric out of it. Let's take my logo for an example:

You just upload it and then you can decide how you want it laid out (bottom right of the page). Now, with my logo I plan to cut them out and sew them on the back of future quilts so I'll probably want more white in between. However, if you see the scooters on the left (these are fabrics that I have previously designed), it actually works out pretty well for fabric.

It even allows you to grab colors out of your image and change them if you want. So you can have the same image but a couple of different backgrounds. The best part is, if you're happy with your fabrics and decide to print them, you can offer them up for sale to other buyers. If other people get them, you get a percent of the sale.

Study Break

You'll have to excuse me for a couple of weeks as I have an exam coming up for my Accounting designation. I will return after these messages...I mean, when my exam is done.

70's Hootenanny

Alright, so I decided on a color scheme for my Hootenanny quilt (the owl from before) and I'm going with a 70's look. Yellow, orange & red owl with a dark brown background. I think it'll be cute. Also, I had to cut down the pattern to half of the original size in order to make a baby quilt. I hope it works - it would be embarassing for an accountant to mess up the math on that one.

In the background you can see some of my quilting essentials. Cutting mat, crappy cell phone (iphone to come soon), mouse which connects to my laptop of course and quilting pins. The highlighter, pen and sticky tabs are left over from studying. They are not essential to quilting but are def essential for studying.

Weekend away with some awesome people. Hopefully we don't get snowed in but they do have internets there so we'll be ok either way.

Candy Striper Baby Quilt

Let me start this off by saying that I'm not a pink person. If I were to make myself a quilt it would be blue or green (as evidenced by the green quilt on my bed). This is why I like making quilts for other people so that I can try new color combos and do something that I wouldn't normally do for myself. Introducing the Candy Striper Quilt (every time I go to write that I have to stop myself from typing STRIPPER) for my cousin who is soon going to be welcoming her first child.

I started off with the cute backing fabric and matched the front colors from there (that stripe that looks yellow actually matches the green on the back pretty well. Just bad lighting in the photo). It turned out pretty well and probably went the smoothest so far which is good because it was on a very short timeline.
